“You must update the system software” – PSN access revoked for HENkaku/TaiHENkaku users (and what you can do about it)
YifanLu and team molecule had warned that PSN access on HENkaku would be short lived, and it seems today’s the day you lose PSN access if you are using the popular hack. Multiple HENkaku users have reported on media sites that the console is now asking them to update in order to access the PSN. Hackinformer confirms this as well.
The issue impacts both HENkaku and TaiHENkaku users, and will most likely not be fixed anytime soon: The firmware spoofing on the exploit was using the fact that firmwares 3.60 and 3.61 used the same token to identify themselves to the PSN, and Sony had not disabled access to 3.61 users, yet. It appears they have now done it.
You must update the system firmware – How does this impact you as a HENkaku user?
Loss of PSN access is not the end of the world as a user of the popular PS Vita hack, but it could make a few things harder.
In order to copy games and official backups to and from your Vita, the official content manager assistant application will not work anymore. You can however use Codestation‘s tool QCMA which allows you to do the exact same things, offline.
In particular, some of you will want to buy or download a PSP game onto their Vita in order to install Adrenaline. To do that, you have several options.
Copy a game to your lower firmware vita, from another (up to date) Vita
If you own multiple PS Vitas on the same account, and one of them has the game in question, you can back it up to your PC, then copy that game to the other Vita through QCMA.
Update: we initially stated in this section that you could use an “up to date” PS Vita to buy the game and back it up to the 3.60 Vita. It seems things might not be that simple as the PS Vita would reject a game that was “backed up” from a higher firmware. I don’t have a way to confirm this statement directly, I appreciate if you can relate your experience in the comments!
Copy a game to your lower firmware vita, from a PS3
Another technique to get games installed to your PS Vita without updating is to use a PS3:
- Put your PS vita in “flight” mode to ensure nothing’s going to ask you to update
- Look in the Playstation Store for the game
- Download it to your PS3 and leave it in the bubble.
- Connect your PS Vita with your PC via QCMA.
- Remove the Vita’s USB cable and plug it on to your PS3 (Leave the usb still plugged into the port that’s on the Vita.) (Don’t close out the error message if you get one, until its plugged into the PS3)
- Copy game on to your Vita.
The remote download technique
One last known trick is to use remote download on your PS Vita. Some people say that this doesn’t work anymore, others have gotten it to work: your mileage might vary here but this is an option you can try if you don’t have a second PS Vita or a PS3.
- Buy the game on the PSN from your computer and click the “download to your PS vita” button
- Turn off your Ps Vita (keep the Wifi on), then turn it back on again
- The game should start downloading

PSN Spoofing on PS vita HENkaku – What next?
Restoring PSN Spoofing on the PS vita for HENkaku users is for now a big unknown. It is unlikely Team molecule will be working on that kind of feature, and although other hackers might be looking into it, there’s no guarantee anyone will succeed. Stay tuned.
