PS Vita firmware 3.63 released
The latest PS Vita firmware was released today, but it doesn’t seem to change much from a security standpoint, despite being one of Sony’s infamous “stability updates”.
This new firmware comes one day after Sony pushed firmware 4.81 for the PS3, also a “stability update”. For both systems, the changelog is as simple as it is obscure:
This system software update improves the quality of the system performance.
The HENkaku hack was fixed in firmware 3.61 for the PS Vita, so it sounds unlikely that Sony have patched anything more related to the PS Vita here. However, they did release a security patch for the PS4 a few days ago with firmware 4.05, and there’s a possibility this is a backport of that fix. All 3 consoles rely on Webkit as their web browser, for example, so I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a common patch that happened here.
Hackinformer report that known tricks such as VHBL, custom themes, and the whitelist trick still work on 3.63, assuming of course that you’ve set those up on a 3.60 console before upgrading!
If you’re running HENkaku on a 3.60 Vita, this goes without saying but you should not upgrade to 3.63, or you will lose the ability to run hacks on your consoles. It’s been confirmed that PSN Spoofing from 3.60 still works as of now.
